After the storm

One week ago there was a big storm over Europe, including the Netherlands. Trees were slain, houses damaged, people killed. The weekend after the storm, the weather was mild with sunshine and spring temperatures. Then at the beginning of this week, there was no wind, the temperature dropped, and several places the traffic had problems with the slippery roads. But the weather was silent and still.

... and now it is snowing.

Mourning Dr. Oetker

Sarah sent me an online newspaper article about the sad news of today: Dr. Oetker has passed away. We know him and love him for his baking powder, sugar toppings, christmas recipes and more. Thank you Dr. Oetker for all the joy and lovely bakery you have given to this world. Your memory lives on.

View from my room

For the first time in weeks the sun has been shining from a clear blue sky since the early morning. Of course this is the day when I will be inside all day long preparing for my Dutch exam next week... but at least I can enjoy the view from my window.

Work overload

A lot of things and to-do's have been piling up at work over christmas. Actually only a few of them are really critical, but I like making deadlines for everything I do so nothing is left undone for long. As a result this week has been work overload incarnate. I even skipped my Dutch course all week to be able to finish some more work.

Tangram

As a thanks for my participation as paranimf at Veras PhD defense, I got a tangram puzzle. I love these puzzles, but I never before owned one myself. Great gift, thanks Vera!

New years resolution

As you might have guessed my new years resolution was not to write more often in my blog (or I would have been very bad in sticking to my resolution).

Loudspeakers

After 26 years of never owning a stereo system, or anything to play music not including my computer, I have bought myself a set of surround speakers and an amplifier at the new years sale. The long-term plan is to make a home cinema complete with projector and silver screen. More on that later...

Next step will probably be to expand my music collection beyond 20 CDs and 1 DVD. I am not joking.
